Objective

The course aims to train personnel in the general aspects of rigging and give participants the required skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively within an offshore lifting team. Classroom training identifies all major rigging hardware and components and includes a review and discussion on all rigging safety requirements and principals. Special emphasis will be given to inspection and maintenance procedures, safety requirements, risk assessments, lift planning and correct communication methods.

Participants

The course is pitched at persons either employed in or wishing to gain employment in an offshore lifting team. Participants will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to contribute to and work safely within an offshore lifting team.

A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for MSMSUP205 will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

Career Opportunities/Pathways

This unit of competency may lead to employment in the offshore oil and gas industry.

On completion students may undertake further studies toward the completion of the PMA20116 Certificate II in Process Plant Operations, PMA30116 Certificate III in Process Plant Operations or PMA40116 Certificate IV in Process Plant Technology. Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre staff are available to discuss further training options with course participants.

Course Pre-requisites

Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age to attend course.

Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre staff are available to discuss course applicability prior to enrolment.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements

This assessment requires the ability to read and interpret typical product specifications, job sheets, procedures, material labels and safety information as provided to operators. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms. Numeracy is required to calculate loads and estimate balance points for slinging.

All assessment activities will be conducted in English.

Assessment & Competency Achievement

The course includes written tests, projects and practical observations. All participants will be assessed on performance and understanding using assessment tools aligned to the unit of competency MSMSUP205. All assessments are carried out at the Centre. All assessments are carried out in English.

A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for MSMSUP205 will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

  • Day 1 - 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Day 2 - 8:30am to 2:30pm
